January 2014 Report

Secondary Report January 2014
·         Academics
o   1 .5 weeks left in the semester.
o   Finals will be January 15-17
o   Dual credit for Calculus, Government and Liberal Art/Stats Math will be addressed with students after second semester begins.

·         Activities
o   8th grade Drama will present their play on Jan. 12 and 14
o   FFA Regional Contest on Jan. 17th
o   Spring Semester begins on January 21st  
o   BPA Regional Contest on Jan. 24th
o   FFA Students to 212/360 Conference in Boise January 27-28


·         Athletics
o   Girls basketball has 8 home games left Districts will begin  on February 6th
o   Boys basketball has 7 home games left and Districts begin on February 17th
o   JH Bball will begin February 13th


·         Vision 21
o   There was a PRIDE Assembly on Dec. 20th, followed by the annual afternoon dodgeball tournament. Students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.
o   Recently Mr. Derting and Mr. Hanson worked on a “licensed to ill” unit which combined math and social dynamics of the Healthcare Act.
o   Calculus students will be working on the “bottle project” this month.
o   Science students have working with chemicals as they learn about photosynthesis, and the greenhouse effect in Biology.

o   English students have been learning how to look up research effectively, and are starting to use the writing prompts that will be very similar to what students will be exposed to in the SBAC test.
