Secondary Report November 2018

·         Academics
o   Mid-semester grade reports went out prior to conferences.
o   The mid semester low grade numbers were about the same as years past at this time, the difference being there were more “F” grades because of the raising of the failing mark to 62%. Students are fully aware of the new grading scale and we have discussed at least 3-4 times already this semester about the necessity for a higher grade percentage for passing. I expect most students will rise to the new standard.
o   P/T conferences were held 11/1 and 11/2. I witnessed many parents in the building on the secondary side, and know that teachers have been using a variety of ways of communicating with parents about student progress.
·         Activities
o   FFA Extemp, Creed and Greenhand on Nov. 2nd
o   Veteran’s Assembly is Nov. 12th at 9:00am.
·         Athletics
o   VB team did not earn a trophy in the state tournament, but gave their best effort working through injuries! The Genesee VB program helped raise over $1700 to the Bosom Buddies Foundation! The team had an outstanding season! We would like to thank Coaches Crowley and Davis for their dedication to the volleyball program.
o   FB team finished up 6th place in league. The team never gave up and kept playing hard despite injuries to key positions during the tournament. We would like to thank Coaches Sperber, Rossebo, Moore, Schnebly, Spencer and Lozar for their commitment to the football program.
o   JH FB has finished their season. The players worked hard throughout the season and showed improvement, with lots of positives for next year.
o   JH VB finished on Nov. 6th and had a great season as well. Lots of participation and noticeable improvement as the season has progressed. We would like to thank Coach Sperber and Coach Johnson for their continued commitment to coach the girls.
o   Girls Basketball has begun with 20 girls turning out to play.  This is an increase from last year. Their first game will be Nov. 13 at Logos.
o   Boys Basketball begins Nov. 9th and we project over 20 boys out for basketball, which is around last year.

·         Vision 21
o   Community give-back day was held November 1st. This year the students and staff worked in senior citizens yards, and many other projects throughout the community.
§  It was a great day of work by the students and staff. I would like to commend the staff on being so flexible and making it work for the students as some of the jobs changed because of the weather. I would like to commend the students for coming to school prepared for the weather and digging in to help make a difference in our community.
§  Many, many compliments from people in the community, they really appreciate the work done by the students and staff.
·         Rec District Update
o   The dirt for the baseball field has been leveled and worked up for grass seed. We are going to let it settle for winter then plant grass seed in the spring. Dugout and backstop work will begin this winter or early spring, the goal for baseball is to play on the new field in the 2019 season.
o   Everything else has been winterized.
