Secondary Report October 2016

·         Academics
o   PSAT Wednesday, October 19th.

o   2nd round of deficient progress reports going out October 11th.

o   Parent conferences will be held Nov. 3rd and 4th. We will be contacting parents of students with deficient grades for a conference, however, ALL PARENTS are encouraged to schedule a conference with teachers. We will also put information in the bulletin encouraging all parents to attend a conference. Mr. Scripter is also holding a parent session about dual credit and the legislation passed earlier this year regarding the money for Advanced Opportunities for students.

o   Student laptops seem to still be working well. We have replaced batteries in about 30 of them at this time. We have identified 3 areas of the laptop that will need to be addressed the next time we plan the purchase of student laptops. Battery life, power buttons and switching to a solid state hard drive will be key areas to consider when we look at new models for the next cycle.

·         Activities
o   FFA-Genesee Soils team took 2nd in Districts, and one team will travel to state. The team traveled to Burley for state Soils on October 12th. This will most likely be the last year we participate in soils at the district and state levels. Declining interest to attend the state contest and the amount of school time missed for Mr. Morrow and the students warrants a change for the future.

o   The FFA Chapter is in the middle of their potato, onion and legumes fund-raiser.

o   Homecoming activities occurred last week (Oct. 3-8). Great participation all around. Over 80% of the students dressed up each day, and the dance and game was were well attended

o   UI Homecoming Parade and game was held Saturday, October 1st. The Band and Cheer squad participated in the parade and pre-game show.

·         Athletics
o   Dig 4 Pink was held October 10th in Genesee.  The match will be highly competitive, and fun for each of the communities.

o   The VB team will finish tied for first or have second alone in league depending what happens with the match with Troy, and will be the #2 in the district tournament, taking tie-breaker into account. District tournament will be Oct. 15, 17, 18 and 19 at LCSC.

o   VB State is October 28-29 at Rigby High School near Idaho Falls.

o   District and State Cross-country will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20th at Grangeville, and Saturday, Oct. 29th respectively. The state race is held at Portneuf Wellness Complex in Pocatello.

o   FB team has 3 remaining regular season games. We play at Lapwai, at Kamiah and home against CV for Senior night on October 28. The league takes 3 teams to the state playoffs this year, and winning the remaining 3 games should secure us a spot or tie at 3rd place in league. Time will tell over the next 3 weeks.

o   JH FB has 3 games left, will finish at the end of the month.

o   JH VB has 25 girls participating. Games began Oct. 6th and run through Nov. 8th

·         Vision 21
