Secondary Report October 2015

·         Academics
o   PSAT Wednesday, October 14th.

o   2nd round of progress reports going out October 13th.

o   Parent conferences will be held Nov. 5th and 6th. We will be contacting parents of students with low grades for a conference. We will also put information in the bulletin encouraging all parents to attend a conference.

o   Fall is always lighter for dual credit enrollments than spring is here, but this year that is much more apparent than usual.  This is due to at least two factors:
1)      We have zero students in any of the online Health Professions courses this semester, which has rarely happened since we started offering those courses.
o   2)  All formerly Tech Prep credit classes have been switched to Technical Competency Courses, at least for this semester as they work through the changes to the process. This means none of our students will have the opportunity to register for credit until the end of this semester, in courses like Welding, Word Processing, etc.

o   Student laptops seem to be working well. Still less than 10% have died, which is what we expected. They are covered under warranty. Teachers are using a variety of platforms for classes, and sharing ideas weekly at our staff meetings.

·         Activities
o   FFA-Genesee Soils team took 1st in Districts, with over 10 students scoring. The team traveled to Burley for state Soils on October 14th.

o   Homecoming activities occurred last week (Oct. 5-10).

o   UI Homecoming Parade and game is Saturday, October 24th. The Band and Cheer squad will be participating in the parade and pre-game show.

o   Four students auditioned for All-State Music groups. We will be notified if anyone is accepted in December.

·         Athletics
o   Dig 4 Pink was held October 1st in Troy. Genesee won the spirit part of Dig Pink for the third year in a row. The match was highly competitive, and Genesee lost 15-13 in game 5.

o   The VB team finished second in league tied with Troy, and will be the #2 in the district tournament, taking tie-breaker into account. District tournament will be Oct. 17, 19, 20 and 21 at LCSC.

o   VB State is October 30th - 31st at Timberlake High School.

o   District and State Cross-country will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22nd and Saturday, Oct. 31st respectively. Both races will take place at Farragut State Park.

o   FB team has 1 remaining regular season game. We play Kamiah this Friday for a spot in the playoffs as a 3rd or 4th seed into the week 9 play-in. The week 9 game will mean traveling to S. Idaho, playing someone most likely on Oct. 31st out of region 3.

o   JH FB has 2 games left, will finish at the end of the month.

o   JH VB has 25 girls participating. Games began Monday night and run through Nov. 10th
