As many of you know, the Genesee Varsity Boy's Basketball team finished 3rd place in the 1A D1 State Tournament at the beginning of the month. The team had a great tournament, and were one of three teams in our division that were able to end their season with a win. Genesee also defeated the 2A (Gangeville) and 1A D2 (Salmon River) State Champions during the regular season, so overall a very successful season for the bulldogs.
The tournament atmosphere was great, and the support of the Genesee community was incredible. The generosity shown to the team through the boosters and supporters made the tournament experience even more memorable. Coach Boyd, the assistant coaches, the rest of the team and the cheer squad took some time to write thank-you notes to express their appreciation to the community members.
Not only did the community support the team financially, but there were MANY Genesee fans at the tournament! Parents, Grandparents, siblings, cousins, friends, teachers, and fans of bulldog basketball filled the Genesee section during the tournament. The coaches and players REALLY appreciated the support. Fans from the other schools in the Whitepine league also showed up to watch the bulldogs in action-it was a great tournament atmosphere!
It is events like the state tournament that really showcase the level of commitment the Genesee community places in their school. It truly takes the "community" to help develop and sustain quality programs in our school, and all of us that were involved with the state tournament are very grateful!
