Secondary Report August 2017
·         Academics
o   The secondary staff is planning to move to a grading scale very much like what the elementary currently are using. Here are highlights.
o   Motivate students to achieve higher percentages within the grade (B to B+, A- to an A or even A+)
o   Recognize motivated students for their academic progress and differentiate between a 91% and a 98%.
o   It helps with the breakdown of Academic honors (Val, Sal)
o   We also want to raise the bar on the lower end to 63% is passing and anything below is a failing grade. We looked at the students who historically reach 60%, which is just making the minimum, so let’s raise the bar on the minimum.
o   We did this with late work a couple of years ago and the students rose to the occasion. We feel it is past time to do the same with academic progress too
o   This scale will closely match the elementary scale which students should be used to, so it should make for a smooth transition.
·         Activities
o   School picture day is September 7th
o   Latah County Fair is September 13-17   PD day(no school) on 14th and no school on 9/15

·         Rec. District Update
o   Scoreboards for Little league and SB were hung in July.  Thanks to Avista utilities with the help of setting the concrete bases for the beams. Scoreboards will be wired in in September.

o   Grass will be seeded around trees outside of the fields once wiring is finished. Grass will be seeded (hopefully this Fall) where new baseball field will be as well.
