The secondary staff is planning to move to a grading scale
very much like what the elementary currently are using. Here are highlights.
o
Motivate students to achieve higher percentages
within the grade (B to B+, A- to an A or even A+)
o
Recognize motivated students for their academic
progress and differentiate between a 91% and a 98%.
o
It helps with the breakdown of Academic honors
(Val, Sal)
o
We also want to raise the bar on the lower end
to 63% is passing and anything below is a failing grade. We looked at the
students who historically reach 60%, which is just making the minimum, so let’s
raise the bar on the minimum.
o
We did this with late work a couple of years ago
and the students rose to the occasion. We feel it is past time to do the same
with academic progress too
o
This scale will closely match the elementary
scale which students should be used to, so it should make for a smooth
transition.

Activities
o
FFA was very successful in Ag Mech, Forestry and
Dairy food Products in May. The Genesee FFA Chapter had the high individual in many
events they were involved in!
o
Student Awards Assembly was held on May 22, with
awards for all types of academic efforts as well as accolades from various
clubs, presented by teachers.
o
44 students in grades 7-12 went to Silverwood
for the day as part of the IDFY club activities.
o
Genesee Spring Cabaret was very nice with many
talented performers.

Athletics
o
Ian Frasure placed 7th in the discus at the
state track meet.
o
Emmy Parkins placed 5th in the 100, 6th in the 400
and 6th in the 200.
o
The Baseball team won the league, district
championship and finished 2nd in the state tournament.
o
The Softball team finished 3rd in
league and was the #3 team to state, finishing 5th in the state
tournament.
o
Genesee was 2nd in the Schools of
Excellence Program through the IHSAA this year.

Vision 21
Fun Run on June 2nd went well. We followed the Fun Run with the Final
PRIDE Assembly, which involved raffle drawings and teacher trivia. Students
were recognized for perfect attendance, and we had 4 students with perfect
attendance the year. Students were also recognized for being on time (no
tardies) with a complimentary candy bar. There were 80 students with zero
tardies for spring semester (52%).
SWPBIS--Thank you to Mr. Morrow and the Ag Leadership class for
organizing the PRIDE Assemblies this year. The Hunger games style was a big
hit, and the students really enjoyed the interaction. We will re-visit the
assemblies with the ASB and see what they would like to do differently for next
school year.
Mrs. Sperber’s Geometry class presented the “school in 2050 project” as
their year-end Final to a panel of judges. The students had to design and
present a bid for their school plans as it would be in 2050. There were budgeted
amounts from 34 million to 347 million.
1:1 devices were collected by class advisors as part of the check-out
process for the end of the school year. Many of the older backpacks are
starting to show their age, but for the most part everything else was turned in
and Mr. Carter will begin the process of getting the machines ready for next
year. Some computers are showing wear after 3 years of use. Students will be
reminded next Fall that the machines need to last for one more year, be gentle.

District Update

A
shed for the mower and other items was purchased. Electricity has been installed
at each SB field.

Concrete
posts for scoreboards are being located to be installed.
o
Sod
came in nicely, have to figure out who will be able to help during the summer.
